Hi All,

Apologies if this has been covered before, but cannot be bothered to scan the several hundreds pages already written... Saw what I am almost certain was the wreckage of the 777 parked in view of Hatton Cross at the weekend, minus it's tail. Firstly, IS this the aircraft, secondly, why was the tail removed?

Cheers.

Yeah it is the B777 that was involved in the accident. I'm not sure why the tail was removed - maybe so that passengers dont recognise its a BA plane?

Not for the first time this is a reasonable question as there are pages of the thread. The tail was removed because it was difficult to secure it and prevent it moving upon its craddle. One weekend with tail attached it did move in strong winds and thus the decision to remove the tail. Bits are being removed from it but slowly, it may be there for some years.

Thanks HZ123... nice to know the forum has some people willing to answer a perfectly sensible question without sarcasm..:ok:

Don't worry there's nothing else to do in HKG...........:p

Yes as mentioned the tail was removed as side / cross winds moved the whole hull in its cradle, nothing sinister like trying to hide it from view - not exactly the easiest of cover-ups.... It will be slowly dismantled and removed eventually.

And if you cannot be bothered to search we cannot allow yet another 777 subject.
