HOUSTON, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) has suspended operations at its Houston hub at Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) through Saturday in anticipation of severe weather conditions caused by Hurricane Ike. Normal operations are planned at the Newark Liberty and Cleveland hubs.
Continental will not operate mainline jet flights at IAH through Saturday night. Continental has plans to reactivate the hub on Sunday morning, Sept. 14, although some flights on Sunday will remain subject to cancellation.
Continental Express and Continental Connection regional airline operations have also been suspended at IAH through Saturday.
Continental employees from other domestic locations are positioned to fly into Houston to assist their co-workers in resuming operations at the IAH hub after the storm.
Business Continuity Facility Opened
Due to the approach of Hurricane Ike, Continental has opened its off-site Business Continuity facility and transferred operations of the airline away from the headquarters building until the storm passes.
The company plans for the center, located outside the city of Houston, to remain open until Sunday morning when operations resume at IAH.

While it is not commonly known, CO bought a huge underground "Bunker" that was built as a fallout shelter by a Taiwanese family a couple of decades ago and CO fitted it for exactly the current scenario.
Last Septemer, CO invited down seveal hundred 'Flyertalkers' (the frequent flyer equivalent of pprune (FlyerTalk - The world's most popular frequent flyer community (http://www.flyertalk.com))) to visit with the executives and provide some tours (We all paid out own A/F and hotels-CO provide a couple of buffet dinners and unlimited access to Larry Kellner and the other executives Friday and Saturday night). A couple of busloads went to the bunker (I had a choice and instead chose to 'play' in their 777 Flight SIM). Those that went on the Bunker tour were very impressed. Pictures can me seen here:
