Hiya All,

I recently got asked by a "spotter" friend where Loganair base their aircraft (Saabs, Otters and trusty Islanders) as he is heading up to Scotland in a few weeks with his work – and camera! I was a bit stumped and could not help him out. Anyone know where the fleets are based? I guess, from the basing and the route structure, where what will appear is a mix of logic and the obvious!

Cheers, H 'n' H!

Mainly Glasgow and Edinburgh which see the bulk of the Saabs each day. Both Twin Otters are based at Glasgow and the Islanders are based in the Orkneys and Shetlands I believe. Aberdeen and Dundee have one or two Saabs each as well. The Loganair hangar is near the 05 hold at Glasgow, hope that helps.

If your mate manages to get some good shots, if he's going far north, i'm very interested in some Northern Isle's photo's...and a Saab! I'd be happy to purchase...Logi was my old 'stomping' ground with fond flying memories because now I just sit on a beach!!!!

Saab crew bases: Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow

Aircraft overnight in: Dundee, Shetland, Orkney, Inverness.

Basically, if your man is anywhere near (almost) any HIAL airport for about half an hour or so, he will see a saab (but probably hear it first)

Cheers!

Gallery (http://www.crcshetland.co.uk/) should work! :O You can do a search for Loganair and it should only show you the Saabs and things.

Re the comment about no Islanders in Shetland anymore, does this mean that flights no longer operate from Tingwall to places like Unst and Fair Isle anymore?

Great Pics of the SAAB, thanks for posting them. Brings back great memories of being in G-BJOP when it used to do the LSI-UNT run, with the loopy pilot sticking it on its wingtips and turning finals inside Sumburgh Head.

Cheers

Steve

Hi All,

Been tied up for the last few days (nah, not that exciting I’m afraid – just with work! LOL!). Thank you for all the replies – I’ll pass the information on. And some excellent photos there as well tascats! And JB007, I’ll make your request known. He’s not sure when he will be up that way – waiting out on some contract or other with one of the Oil companies so this is an “if it all works out” request. Anyway, cheers for all the info. I’ll forward that on – and add that to my knowledge-store too!

Regards,

H ‘n’ H
