With Boeing employees due to go on strike how do you think this will affect the production of the Dreamliner e.g do you think it will delay it alot? or such a small delay it wont be worth bothering about?

Thanks

Jamie

Probably not. When is your plane scheduled for delivery?

The strike might be in fact a blessing in disguise for Boeing management as now they have a good argument to explain the next planned delay . :hmm:

Indeed it is, and thus they were of course unable to present a real offer. Not a big surprise at all.

Oh, and our first delivery positions were in 2011, fat chance .)

As a conspiracy theory. How about this - The Program is incurring a further delay , some airlines penalty clauses are only payable if development and testing are the cause for the delay ( i.e they do not have to pay fines to the their customers if the program is delayed as a result of industrial issues , a clause boeing skillfully worded into the contract) , so they arrange a little strike to buy them precious time.. without further penalty.

Yes, that of course is far more likely than the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers needing an excuse to walk out on the job - again.

The one saving grace for Boeing in this strike, is that despite all of its 7-series jets being affected, it will have almost certainly have in place, clauses for every firm order mitigating against industrial action.

The bigger issue is the strike effect on suppliers (http://www.fleetbuzzeditorial.com/2008/09/08/boeingstrikesuppliers/) to Boeing and the airlines expecting deliveries (http://www.fleetbuzzeditorial.com/2008/09/10/airlinesboeingstrike/).

CFO James Bell pretty much admitted in his recent speech that there would be at least a months delay to the 787 (http://www.fleetbuzzeditorial.com/2008/09/15/boeingiam-dispute/) based on the impact of the strike.

Question is, is how long the strike will last....

Strike penalty on the program is 1 for 1. I should think it gives the company a little breathing time to sort out some of the technical problems. I doubt whether an inability to manufacture is that serious in a program that has many technical problems.

Talks with the second major union, the SPEEA also got underway.

Wonder what lengths Boeing will go to in order to avert another strike (http://www.fleetbuzzeditorial.com/2008/09/18/speeaboeingtalks/)??

Still no sign of Boeing/Union talks (http://www.fleetbuzzeditorial.com/2008/09/23/boeingdilemma/)...
