View Full Version : What Exactly Do Multi Mode Receivers Do?

Is there any reference material on the web regarding the Rockwell Collins Multi Mode Receivers for use in B757s and B767s.

Or any material that describes the function of an MMR in general or what their role is with respect to a FMC?

Thanx.

Greetings

Instead of have a VOR, DME, ILS, MLS, GPS receiver, the MMR is handling it through hardware and software replacing all the above, however each card is specific to a Radio Aid (except ADF BTW)
The MMR handles the Navigation function of the GPS as well. :ok:

Er, I have been on the 767 for 4 years and i don't know what a multi mode receiver is. Should I be concerned?

No, except when you have an ILS failure and someone tells you to cycle the breaker, you have to know that the breaker is labeled MLS not ILS.

Not all B767/757's have the MMR installed. Probably less than 30% on a world wide fleet basis. If you have the Pegasus FMS, then their is an excellent chance you would have dual MMR installed.

Greetings,
Dual MMR has nothing to do with Dual Pegasus, it simply has to do with redundancy which is a must :ok:
and MLS (microwave Landing System) has nothing to do with ILS within an MMR :}

Sorry but Pegasus FANS1 has a dual MMR installation installed. Not sure if there is any other baseline or PIP FMC (757/767) installation that will support the MMR's, but do not think so.
