I am currently studying for my PPL at a flying school in the north of England, I have taken and passed all my exams and have 36 hours total. I just need to undertake one more solo nav and then complete my dual and solo QXC prior to taking my test.
I am lucky in that I can fly frequently during the week however for the last few weeks the great British summer has really played it part and have had nearly all of my lessons cancelled.
I need to have my ppl passed by the end of September 2008 as I intend to study for my ATPL exams (distance learning) and need to have module one completed by March 2008. (for reasons to do with my work and holiday time)
My concern is that the weather will really delay things as I need reasonable weather to enable me to fly solo.
I am travelling to Portugal for the first two weeks in September 2008 and staying on the Algarve. Can anyone recommend a flight school on the Algarve where I could finish my PPL?
Thanks

Hi there

I'm not sure about the Algarve but Gestair have a training school just outside Lisbon in Cascais. They are Spanish owned and have a large school in Spain also. Check out their website.

The only problem is that Lisbon is about a 2 hours train ride from the Algarve.

These are the closest to the Algarve, so you might ask them : AERONAUTICAL ACADEMY OF EUROPE - Academia Aeronáutica de Évora, S.A. (http://www.aae.pt/Movie.html)

Still, a bit far...

Other than that, besides the previously mentioned Gestair there´s Leávia, Omni, and the Aero Clube de Portugal flight school, all at the Tires (Cascais) Airport.

I don´t know of a school in the Algarve doing PPLs, but that doesn´t mean there isn´t one.

Good luck.

Yes indeed. The school is at Alvor which is just outside Portimao. Link here:

Aero Club de Portugal (http://www.aecp.pt/index.asp?id=99)

32SQDN, that school is based in Tires (Cascais) not in Portimao.

Here´s a link to the Leavia group : Grupo 7 (http://www.grupo7air.com/entrance.html)

Sorry if that link was misleading. This is the school that I was referring to:

Aero Vip - Localização (http://www.aerovip.pt/localizacao.html)

I have a property in that area and I know they have a flight school but I do not have any experience of the flight training there.
