F-15 crashes in Nevada during training

LAS VEGAS - An Air Force official says the crash of an F-15 jet in the Nevada desert during a training exercise has left one pilot dead and the other injured.
Air Force spokesman Andrew Dumboski says the two-seater plane went down at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday on the Nevada Test and Training Range outside of Goldfield, Nev.
The names of the pilots were not immediately released. Dumboski says the injured pilot is in stable condition and is under observation at Mike O'Callaghan Federal Hospital.
The pilots were assigned to the 65th Aggressor Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas.
Goldfield is about 180 miles north of the base

LAS VEGAS -- A pilot from Nellis Air Force Base has died following the crash of a U.S. Air Force F-15D Eagle two-seater jet, Nellis Air Force Base officials said.

Another pilot from the aircraft was transported to Mike O’Callaghan Federal Hospital at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The second pilot is under observation and in stable condition, officials said.
The crash occurred on the Nevada Test and Training Range about 50 miles east of Goldfield, Nev., said Charles Ramey of Nellis Air Force Base.

He said the crash occurred about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday as the jet was taking part in an Exercise Red Flag combat training mission.
Both pilots were assigned to the 65th Aggressor Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, whose mission is to simulate opposing enemy air forces during Red Flag exercises.
The names of the pilots involved are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
A board of military officials is being convened to investigate the crash. The board will include a senior pilot, a maintenance expert, a flight surgeon, a judge advocate and any other needed specialist. The board president will release a report on the board's findings following their investigation.

Lt Col Tom "MOSES" Bouley was the USAF exchange pilot on the Tornado F3 from about 2001. Truly a legend in his own lifetime, we were very sad to hear of his loss on Thursday.

This is a terrible day. Moses was one of the best pilots, and most unassuming guys I have the pleasure of flying and drinking with. Most definitely the nicest (with the best brit type sense of humour) yank:ok:; in fact bloke, I have ever met.
He was a HUGE asset to 43, professionally and socially. Man I am devastated; such a huge loss. I really have trouble expressing it in words...

Just my best wishes to his family and all the guys on his Sqn, they were lucky to have someone I would imagine would be the greatest of bosses.

Truly lost for words, my thoughts are with Toni and the rest of Moses' family. The world is a poorer place without him, one of the most insprirational guys on whose wing to fly as a eijit JP.

For those in the system it will be obvious who the back seater was, I've spoken with him this morning and physically he's fine.

I knew Moses during his time with the F3 and at Lakenheath. I had the pleasure of catching up over a quiet beer with him in Vegas this January (much better than the loud weed the previous time we met!).

He was truly a legend, a great fighter pilot and a bloody nice bloke.

Tragic Loss,

Moses, was a truely awesome fighter pilot, a leader, a friend, a mentor and (as has been said) happy family man.

I suppose 43 will be in 'wake', but for my part, My life was enriched by the relatively short time I spent flying along side him.

A Professional Gentleman flyer, of great skill. His family and the USAF should be truely proud of his contribution.

Utterly sad loss. As those who didn't know him or have the pleasure of meeting him may gather from the tributes here, 'Moses' was an awesome bloke. I've met some good exchange officers but he was without doubt the best. More than that words fail me and I doubt I could truly do the man justice. Codolences to the family, the Squadron and 'Big T' - take care and get well soon.

Pilot Identified in Fatal F-15 Crash: The 65th Aggressor Squadron pilot who died in the July 30 crash of an F-15D at Nellis AFB, Nev., was Lt. Col. Thomas Bouley, the commander of the squadron. The other pilot on the two-seat fighter was an Royal Air Force exchange officer is in stable condition, but his name is being withheld, said Col. Russ Handy, 57th Wing commander, during a July 31 press conference. He noted that the RAF pilot, who he said is working with the accident investigation board, has "extensive Royal Air Force Tornado F-3 experience and is now fully qualified in the F-16." Handy added that he had just begun his tour with the 65th AGRS. Of Bouley, Handy said, "he was a decorated warrior, an inspiring leader of airmen, and a loving father and husband. He served his country with distinction and will be greatly missed." Bouley had served for 20 years and amassed 4,500 flying hours in the F-15, RAF F-3, and T-38. The accident took place during a Red Flag training exercise, which was continuing without the participation of the 65th AGRS and the 64th AGRS.
