Does anyone have information on the hiring process at SAA and SAA Express? What occurs? What are they looking for?
Thank you,

You can do better than SAX. You will encounter amongst the Captains and management, especially instructors, very big egos blustering along in little aeroplanes.

If you obtain a residency permit, foreigners are hired at SAX.

I-robot is right. Foreigners will be considered with permanent SA residency. There is no reliable contact address for CV's. If you are desperate, PM me and I will send you my email address.

The minimum requirement at SAX is a SA Commercial license with IF rating and 1000hrs. The Co would like to hire 2500hr+ candidates, but they have hired FO's with as low as 1500hrs. The current flavour of the month is minimum 500hrs multi-engine time and turbine time plus SA ATP subjects (or the license) will help a lot.

SAX's current crew requirement is 191 pilots and they are only hiring to fight attrition. A new fleet might increase the number by approximately 40 pilots. Current time to command for eligible FO's (4000hrs + ATP) is about 2 years. Salaries are reasonable, but less than Comair and about 50% of comparable SAA scales. Working conditions are good, but on certain pools you can expect to fly 90+hrs per month over 20 days.

SAX is profitable and has recently paid off the residual payments on 13 of its 21 aircraft. The other 8 aircraft are on operating leases. Contrary to popular belief, SAX has never received capital from the treasury although it now belongs to the Department of Public Enterprise (DPE).
