Hi. Does anybody knows what are the requirements to get JAA IR rated.
I am getting different feedback from FTO΄s and I am a bit confused.
I have CPL/ME allready with all ATP stuff and I need to get my IR/ME.

Anyone knows the best option??

Thanks.

I think it will be cheapest if you do 30 hours on a single sim [(FNPT II) 35 hours if you don't have CPL)] plus 15 hours on the aircraft.
After that you'll need 5 hours on multiengine of which 3 can be on sim as well.

Initial breakdown
PCATD 40 hours, AC 30 hours

FNPT I 20 hours ,AC 30 hours

FNPT II 35 hours ,AC 15 hours

That's the way I'm doing it. :ok:

If you have a CPL already then the IR course is reduced to 50 hours minimum, split between FNPT and aircraft. Your probably looking at 30 - 35 hours sim time and the rest in the aircraft. Different FTO's may tweak that a little either way depending on how you progress. Assuming you finish the 50 hours training and are ready for test, you will have to do the 170A test first, before actual skills test.

The *definitive* answer is in JAR-FCL.

Available to read from the JAA website (no doubt).

You'll also get "different feedback" from the various PPRuNers.

The definitive answer is actually in Lasors 2008:-

www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=175&pagetype=90&pageid=4460

The requirements are pretty much as we've already stated.

Now there you go, Mike - there are no definitive answers in Lasors for various reasons.

Lasors is a usefull aide-memoire but a waste of space in the same breath. It's full of errors - apart from which it only covers the UK interpretation.

Take, for instance, the 28 hour multi engine CPL course - it's not JAA compliant (in it's own right).

The *definitive* answers are in JAR-FCL.

Whether its JAR FCL or Lasor's, i'll think you'll find they say the same thing as far as IR training is concerned. Or am I reading them differently?

Having time to waste (mine and yours :E) in irrelevant stuff I don't know anything about anyway, I thought I would hazard a guess and say that the definitive answer will be in JAR-FCL as transposed in national law. :ok:

Now to answer the OP's question, you need to do an approved course of training of about 50hrs, a good part of which you can do in the sim. Different FTOs will offer different packages with different levels of bovine manure on top of what you actually need. Plus in the UK you will end up doing more than the minimum anyway (just to keep your chosen FTO afloat if nothing else). I suggest you find an FTO you more or less like, get specific info about what they propose, then run that through the CAA if you have any doubts at all. 01293.573.700 is the number, in case you don't know it by heart yet :bored:

Thanks..

Actually the information I am receiving is from Spain.

PA-28-161 15 (reduced to 10 for CPL) @ 190,00€ = 1.900€
PA-34-200 15 @ 375,00€ = 5.625€

SIM
ATC -810 25 @ 65,00€ = 1.625€
FNPT-II PA-34 15 @ 159€ = 2.385€

Total for training: 11.535€ plus flight check

Is this correct or I can do it for less or in a better or different way way??

Regards

That's a total of 65 hours or am I mistaken? (10+15 = 25 acft, 25+15 = 40 sim; 40+25 = 65 total)

Looks like you have a few extra hours in the sim for some reason. Something like 15 acft + 35 sim should do it as far as I know, assuming you already have a CPL and MEP. I did 61hr, but that was on the basis of an SEP PPL.

In any event, this is Pprune so I might be talking bollocks. Run that through the CAA as I said and see if they're happy with it if that's your concern.

As for doing it for less, I would say that's about as cheap as it gets in JAA land. You might be able to scrap a thousand Euros or so off that if you're very determined and a really good learner, but that's pocket change in the big scheme of things.

I'm curious as to who this school is, as I can see it's not Aerofan or Aerodynamics, the two usual Spanish suspects. Is there a new player on the international students market?

Thanks LH2..

They told me that they prefer to do 40h SIM (25 ATC plus 15 FNTPII) instead of 25 at FNTPII (as required by JAA) because they think that way (25 + 15 which is also accepted by JAA) it is much better for the student and the price is more or less the same.

To make it 50h it will be 25h flight (10SE + 15ME) plus 25h at SIM FNTPII @ €159 = €3.975. as far as I know the required 25h SIM has to be at FNTPII or can it be at ATC810? and their exposed way of doing it is €4.010 (25 ATC + 15 FNTPII) which is not very far from €3.975.

Is there any other way of doing it?
I mean, is it ok like that for a CPL/ME pilot to get IR:

10h SE + 15h ME + (SIM) either 25h FNTPII or (25ATC + 15FNTPII)

BTW. School is Aeromadrid as Aerofan has no simulators and Aerodynamics is in Malaga.

SL
