I've never worked at either, but I'll offer my opinion.

Are you going in as a DEC or FO?

Tax and Visa:
EK gives you a place to live and tax free money.
AJV gets you neither.

Health Insurance:
EK free for you, small fee for your family. ( a friend pays $100 per month)
AJV free for you, and $700 per month for your family. (for me anyways)

Days off:
EK while not consecutive, 14 days per month seems the norm. (Boeing buddies tell me)
AJV 11 consecutive days off.

Vacation:
EK 42 days per year.
AJV 24 days per year. Sounds like most guys take 2 per month and add them to the 11 to make 13 per month.

Pass travel:
EK some on EK no ID90s
AJV ID90 on Star Alliance

Living in states and commuting:
EK nope.
AJV the only option. (i heard some are working on getting a visa to live in japan at their own expense)

Equipment and upgrade:
EK 240 new airframes on order, and 3-4 year upgrades
AJV several new 767F on order and about 4 year upgrade

Long term money:
EK yearly bonus, and provident fund. (hard to put a real number on this one)
AJV FO end contract $18,000 CA $30,000 and 5-800 per month into a retirement fund.

Short term money:
EK as FO about $80,000 per year tax free. CA about $150,000 tax free.
AJV as FO $90-100,000 per year taxed at about 28%. CA about $150,000 taxed.

Hosties:
EK yep, lots of em
AJV none.

Not sure about exact numbers, these are just the best I can recall and gather.
Other will have exact numbers.

It comes down to your willingness to move or commute. If you are married, can she handle living in a foreign country like UAE?

I would personally prefer EK, but my wife prefers AJV. We settled for SKYW.(no change)

good luck.

Days off:

AJV 11 consecutive days off.

EK - right now the 777 is over staffed due to 2-4 777 sitting at boeing, so good days off. should change soon, management do not want pilots to have too many days off.

Pass travel:
EK some on EK no ID90s
AJV ID90 on Star Alliance

EK - ZED on lots of airlines, after 6 months

Equipment and upgrade:
EK 240 new airframes on order, and 3-4 year upgrades
AJV several new 767F on order and about 4 year upgrade

EK - at present 116 airplanes, 2013/14 - 196 and 2020 will be 220, yes lots of new stuff coming but lots of old leaving , you do the math upgrades now 4 years and will just keep getting longer, 12 years for the fleet to double

Well I have worked for BOTH!

I would recommend that you at least learn how to spell "Emirates" before you try to interview....:ok:

Lil Bro, your info is a bit off, especially regarding pay.

Simply put, I left EK to have monthly time at home in the USA. Other then missing the 777 and the destinations we flew to in EK, I have no regrets.

Both jobs have pros and cons, and offer two totally different lifestyles. Choose to pursue the one that suits your situation.

PM if you have specific questions.
