I am due for a renewal on all my publications and I am at a turning point, just about to step up into the major players CHC, Bristow and wondered which pubs they use as a company standard. Or do they even care which you go with. I am an AIP man traditionally but thought I would check before reinvesting.

Any info is appreciated.

Mmmmm

A very good question ........

Over the past 30 years I have had the luck to have been able to operate all over the world. Having had to at various times to use Oz AIP pack ,Uk Aerad and both USA Jepps and the NOAA map packs and various other bits of rubbish ... I was very relieved when every country finally recognised that the Jepps would be legally allowed to be used in their airspace systems.

The Jepp system is WORLDWIDE and once you get into it it is very user friendly and of course system standardised ... so you don't always have to reach for the "legend" sheet every time you cross a border!

I vote for Jepps. ...... (my opinions of course  )

Cheers :)

I see your in Aus but just out of interest in the UK I was told we can only use approach plates from the AIP for reference, probably because they are not ammended every couple of weeks like the Jepps/Aerad, could be talking rubbish of course.

Was working for a company a couple of years ago and basically it was 'here is your helicopter get on with it', well I needed some plates and found at that time Jepps were a lot cheaper so got them, the rest of the pilots had used Aerad for years, there next set of plates were Jepps.

Aerad plates are nice to look at but in the whole package there is just more of everything, more plates, supplements to lose, etc. Jepps seem a bit more user friendly not as pretty mind and if you have to go some place strange you can get hold of someone and they will fax them over if time is short.

If you can read a plate go for Jepps, if your going to work for a company like Bristow or CHC they tell you what to use and of course you won't be buying your own.

Bristow uses AIP charts, but as CarryonCopter said, you aren't required to buy your own, but if you do want reference copies you can download them here...and its free!http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/publications/aip.asp?pg=10
