Working for SAA for 10 years made me see how a once proud airline became arrogant and money-hungry. The airline is falling apart - techies, resources to name a few are being neglected or even non-exist. Employees are treated like dirt, this while management gets ALL the rewards. It has turned into a 'make-a-plan' airline, and I fear it's in the same trend as the Zimdollar - downwards ever, forward never. There are a couple of managers who really want to help their staff, but most of the management team squash them, as they are a threat to the 14th and retainment cheques. Some of the departments in SAA have become DHL departments - no new test equipment, no new courses, nothing. Techies are doing work what they were not trained very expensively to do. Empires within SAA are created, protected and hidden behind corrupt figures from the people who count. Even Alec Erwin don't care about the happenings in SAA - as long as they stay out of the media, and his office.

Well, when push comes to shove, they are still the highest paying airline to work for (in terms of flightdeck salaries) in the country by a mile. Nobody else even comes close. Will that change?

Unlikely, at least not as long as the money is free flowing and the airline is funded by the government coffers!

Government? The government doesn't generate money.
