Wow what a day. 8.30 start at Barton for my first solo. I'm training in the PA38 at Ravenair Barton. I had about 15 hours in the PA28 out of EGCC with MSF but when they closed down I moved onto the PA38. I am so chuffed with today, was nerve racking but worth every minute! cant wait to get some consolidatin done now! :cool:

Seriously though, I found I was itching to go solo again (yes, I too was delayed by the winter weather) but in hindsight the dual time spent flying the weather has proven very beneficial, including the time flying with snow coming in the cabin. So, I hope you get on with consolidating your solo hours soon, but if not don't worry as it's all good experience.

Weldone! I'm also flying with ravenair, and perticularly enjoyed barton. The crater just aft the numbers on 09 gave me some hair raising moments were a perfect landing on the numbers still ment you ballooned it.

Would have loved to go solo there but now stuck at John lennon awaiting my solo cherry to be popped.

No worries Madgav, there are loads of us all in the same boat. I guess in the late autumn we all got to move along with the syllabus. Then there was that period of quiet weather from mid October to early November last year when we had a spate of folks going solo. I guess we all thought the same: "That's it, more solo time & cross-countries, I'll be done by May".

Of course the weather had different ideas, when it wasn't blowing a hoolie the airfield was sodden. We were still flying in snow in April.

Brgsstm - ignore all us moaning old codgers. Enjoy your flying & I hope the weather lets you get up again shortly on your own.

Thanks for the kind words people. I am amazed about the things that are only just coming back to me since the flight. I remember nearly having to go around as there was an Ultralight on 27L as I was on short finals. Luckily it was off before i got below 200ft and I managed to put her down.

I am still on a high now! I guess I can call myself an aviator now then? :cool:

Or at least that's what we Yank louts say! Congratulations and I'll bet everyone that reads your post flashes back to THEIR solo---I know I did. You were already an aviator--now you're an aircraft commander! Your first P1 time! I was confident in every phase but the landing (which is a bit of an unnerving mindset) when I went---probably before you were born. I was in a T-34 and of course the crosswinds were at limits on my outbound leg---but, crabbed her in and and everything sorted out---not a full pounder but not a barking seal, either. I hope you love this game---it'll carry you through to your dream (with alot of midnight oil burnt studying). All these years later and I started 747-400 school today. I'm long in the tooth but I still love it----Again: CONGRATS!!!!!!

Like everyone else has said, Well done, Brgsstm! :ok: It's a great achievement and yes, like one of the other posters said, it took me straight back to my first solo. Two years on, I still get such a thrill from knowing that I've achieved my PPL-A and can fly whenever I like!

Re. the current weather forecasts, you should come up to the west coast of Scotland! We've had fantastic weather since the last week in April. Finally had some rain over a couple of days, but it wasn't much and hasn't even wet the ground. :)

Yep without the 17 stone of lard in the right hand seat went like a dream.

A guy went solo at Stapleford today and burst the front tyre !!!.

At least he'll always have that story to tell round the camp fire !!.

What??? As my first solo was first thing in the morning I was told to leave money behind the bar for the instructors to drink the beer. I've been diddled!

Well once again thanks to all that have wished me well and posted in this thread.

I was blessed with good weather last weekend also and managed to get another 30mins solo in the circuit at Barton. I'm really loving it now, feels like i'm getting somewhere and am very proud of myself.

I have a lesson tomorrow (sat 14th) but the weather isnt looking great. just hope I can get another at least 10mins in to of completed my first hour as P1.
