The Lincolnshire Echo (http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=156130&command=displayContent&sourceNode=242285&home=yes&more_nodeId1=156139&contentPK=20737712) is reporting that the BBMF may not be staying at Coningsby in the long term.

Do we have anywhere we can squeeze them in, or could this be the end of this much admired memorial to all airmen.

Or is this just the usual red herring in planning terms.

How about Scampton? There's at least one useable hangar.

Wyton would be an alternative location that is open 7 days most of the year and lack of lighting\navaids would not be too much of a problem to their vfr operation.

The Echo piece is little more than lazy journalism.

Mind you, the MoD is missing a trick in not co-locating the BBMF with the Reds, ideally at Scampton. This is one area where a PFI would actually work, and the local authorities are obviously keen to commit to something permanent. An aviation heritage centre using part of the technical site would not only preserve the architecture, N*gger's grave and Scampers as a flying centre, but HHA's operations would also be assured and there would be opportunity to attract other heritage-related flying activities (Air Atlantique is still looking, I believe).

With the added advantage of the Reds practising over the winter, it could become the Midlands' version of Duxford. Commercial sponsorship of the Reds would also be a more attractive opportunity, negating the usual criticism of funds being diverted from the front line.

Funningley? Not too far from our ouse either. And think of the black pudding they could get. :E

Am not sure if Scampton is in the Midlands or Yorkshire and the Humber but anything which might bring the Duxford experience further North gets my vote. :ok:

Lazy journalism? Surely not!

Well, the Lincoln area falls within the Government Office for the East Midlands if that's any help :ok:

As f4aviation pointed out, its nothing more than sloppy journos at it again!!

The very same comic that last week published a picture of an An-124 taking off when running the story about the coroners inquest outcome regarding XV230. I suppose they sent someone to the file marked Nimrod, and the slave found that pic and figured it was a Nimrod:ugh:

Thank god I never got a job with the useless :mad:s.

From the Lincolnshire Echo (http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=156130&command=displayContent&sourceNode=242285&home=yes&more_nodeId1=156139&contentPK=20789607) (04 June 2008).

MEMORIAL FLIGHT 'SAFE AT AIRBASE FOR FIVE YEARS'

The short-term future of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight in Lincolnshire has been secured.

But the MoD is still refusing to confirm whether the one Lancaster, one Dakota, two Hurricanes and five Spitfires which are based at RAF Coningsby will stay in the county in the long-run.

Lincolnshire County County's Planning and Regulation Committee voted to grant permission for the BBMF's temporary visitor centre to remain at the base until May 31, 2013.

But plans for a permanent facility, which have been knocked back by the local authority repeatedly, are no closer to fruition.

The council said there was little point in allowing a permanent structure to be built if it is to become redundant when the MoD decides to house the BBMF elsewhere.

The MoD has still not made up its mind, the council has been told.

f4aviation: Reds to Waddo would put your scampton 'Oop north Duxford' idea to bed. The local council would like to erect a permanent visitors center at Coningsby but the RAF isn't giving any guarentees out that 'Berbumf' will stay local. The Boss has said his flights future at Coningsby was pretty certain, however he leaves in 2013, so all bets are off after then. I assume he's leaving as his job was advertised recently...

BBMF need a Tory Government - Labour care not one jot for the opinions of the good people of Lincolnshire but as long as the Lancaster is still flying the people of this county want it in Bomber County where it belongs.

"Lest we forget" is something that MOD and politicians should put uppermost in any considerations they might have for the future of these wonderful aircaft. The servicemen and women who supported and flew them saved us from defeat in our darkest days. Let not our political masters ignore history and let not any mean bean counters in MOD or the Treasury lose sight of our glorious history.

London City would be good.

The ruling political class and money men should be reminded what service and duty really are as regulary as possible, especially when the defence budget is being debated.

agree duford has many spitfire personel there with spares and all that. Besides when has the government ever cared about the past and well being or people who gave the fight in the World Wars, the Goverment gives the MOD so little now there is nothing left and cuts will and have to be made , these are the things that we dont want to loose but im glad i dont make these decisions

Dux is getting a bit full. Caroline Grace has moved her two seat spit to Bentwaters I think because of that reason.
BBMF to Wyton or even Scampton but not yet.
