LAN to launch their Own Pilot Academy

Around U$D 30.000 for the whole thing, should be done in 15 Months, launch class would be starting March 2009, located in Copiapo chile (really not a place to rock, but you still have some nice beaches nearby), Desierto de Atacama Airport (SCAT) with full IFR Procedures, and quite a good Weather.

Probably a good idea, and if I am not mistaken that would make LAN the first airline in Latin America to open their own academy.

I am wondering whether upon successful completion of the course graduates are guaranteed employment with one of the LAN airlines? That certainly makes it a better deal than what COPA is doing. :yuk:

If they intend to open up the market that much, I wouldn't be surprised if they also relieved themselves of the finacial risk of the Type Rating following the CPL course at the quoted price, and the awarding of an employment contract. We could possibly seeing the onset of a new era in pilot training in the region

Sorry to disapoint you mate, but Varig (the original one) had this idea back in 1952 when they grounded EVAER :O

Anyway, in more recent years, this is indeed a first and looks a nice idea. Will it be open for foreigners?

VARIG (Brazilian airlines) had its own pilot academy (EVAER). I guess it started in 60s. Unfortulatelly it had been closed when the company faced financial problems. And in the end both had collapsed.:{
