My dad left the RN in 1967 after 8 yrs service.
He took the lump sum, and doesn't think he was eligible for a pension at 65.
I am under the impression that if you leave before your pension point you get nothing till 65, then a percentage of the pension.
Am I right?

Not enough information mate.

Commissioned or not?

Terms of service?

You're going way back.

Beagle can't help as he doesn't do rum or baccy.

But if you take the word beagle, add a few letters and mix it up a bit, it spells....Oh my God!

Sorry Mate, bad news I think:

"Service Preserved Pensions

Prior to 06 April 1975 there was no provision for a preservation of pension benefits and service personnel who left the Armed Forces had to have completed 16 years from age 21 (Officers) or 22 years from age 18 (Other ranks). Those who left before that date without completing the above criteria, lost all pension entitlement."

BEagle can't help as he doesn't do rum or baccy.

Neither do I indulge in the third of the well-known naval traditions....

Ref CPL Plod's info

There is also a lobby group beavering away in the background trying to get that sorted out as well.

"Armed Forces Pension Group" AKA 'AFPG' I believe that they have a website.

Good luck
