A big thank you to Keith Jones, of Big Redkite Aviation.

Having done lots of research into where to do the flying, the costs of flying in the states or in Europe with all other costs accounted for, pointed towards flying in the UK is a tad cheaper, whilst the disadvantage of unpredictable with the weather (but depends when you choose to do the flying).

Both myself and another pilot needed to get current again and to be checked out on an a/c type - a C152 in this instance. Many places in the US had limited instructor and a/c availability.

The decision-making was down to the cost savings, a/c availability (we booked a/c for a week’s hour building) flying in UK airspace and a/c in good condition.

We did have a bad start with the weather but we made up for it, flying across to the likes of Devon, 2 unplanned weather divisions (good practice), Military airspace etc, all good practice.

So my bit of advice… before you all make a sudden decision of where to do your flying, look at what are your requirements (flying *** hours on type to get current) and look at all the hidden costs.

Cheers Keith! :ok:
