Heard there was a plane crash in Durbanville area yesterday. Does anyone have any details or info regarding that??

It was an ultralight. Pilot (recently licenced) aged 50 - a UCT Professor - died whilst his daughter is in hospital being treated for injuries. An eyewitness claims that it stalled on the crosswind leg after a touch-and-go.

Very sad.

It was a Jabaru.

Unfortunately, and as we all know, aeroplanes run on sous.

No sous, no run.

My condolences to the family, but any person taking off without the required amount of fuel, and no reserves in the tank is generally asking for a problem to arise.

Unfortunately the emergency landing was directly into the sun and the pilot did not see the electrical pole/wires, due to the glare.

Interesting....so much for the "eyewitness" report I got!

Thanks for clearing that one up G.
