He must have thought he was in Zimbabwe. He could have bought himself a couple of CDs with that.

It's a shame that the name on the cheque wasn't George W. Bush. Because GWB regularly writes similarly huge cheques in order to finance the US budget deficit. I believe it was only about $665 billion in 2004. I don't understand why the cheques never bounce, because the country was already well overdrawn by then, when each American household became endebted to foreign creditors to the tune of an additional $5,500 (for that year's overspending alone) whilst continuing to issue hugely-generous tax-breaks to those Americans who were probably reinvesting those same tax-breaks in US govt. securities from the anonymous safety of offshore tax-havens as foreign investors...?! :p

Of course, we all pay and so will our children, their children and our great-grandchildren...

A US taxpayer, are you airship?

In case you haven't been paying attention, I'd suggest that non-American financial institutions are currently bearing at least half the pain of the US sub-prime mortgage meltdown. It serves them right, but yes, I figure we're all paying "our bit".

Oil's priced in dollars. So thankfully the full brunt of the oil price rises have yet to hit us here in Europe since the recent dollar freefall. Unfortunetly, airplanes are also priced in dollars. So pity Airbus?!

Hey?! I recently read that the Canadian dollar is at or above par with the US$ - lots of Canadians goin' south for bargains?! But were you also aware that Canada is now the USA's primary supplier of crude oil, ahead of the Saudis etc.?! You know how unreliable those Canadians can be - ask their indigenous Indians? Invade immediately - they're only just across the border. Lot's of Canadians also have French ancestry - immediate capitulation, should make it all a real doddle?! :ok:

PS. I'm going to have a nap now, and sorry for somewhat hijacking your thread rotornut and/or inciting an invasion of Canada...

Naw Brick, the question should be;

Has there ever been a thread that airship has not hijacked to promote his agenda? :p

Sorry about the drift rotornut, I loved the part in the article about when arrested he had drugs on him. Ya think! :D

The would-be music mogul is facing charges of forgery, carrying a weapon and possession of marijuana.

Missed this the first time through.

Yes, it's true. And nearly 200-ish years ago, a whole bunch of them were 'asked' to leave.

And guess where they wound up?

One's MIL is a pure cajun and visiting southwest Lousiania is quite interesting.

Although I hate crawfish................:yuk:

The last time you tried to invade Canada was a disaster and the British burned Washington as a lesson to you folks. Unfortunately, you don't have a very good track record at invading countries - especially a certain one in the Middle East!

I can't wait for airship to read that one! :D:D:D

At first, I thought rotornut was confusing me with an American.

And then con-pilot waded in and pretty well made clear he thought that rotornut was probably talking about the French, as I reread: Unfortunately, you don't have a very good track record at invading countries - especially a certain one in the Middle East! I guess that could mean the Brits, French, Turks, Egyptians or even the Israelis, though the most recent invaders were Saddam Hussein and then the American (coalition). ;)

As it happens, I'm not French, I only live here. I'm a Brit (when it suits me) and anything else that I'm comfortable with at the time of writing. A very long time ago I once pretended to be Italian because it got more tips. I wouldn't pretend to be an Ozzie because they sound too whiney. I'd continue this but I'm trying to cut down on mini-cigars and the Scotch which I've decided are the main reasons why I'm running an overdraft (and living beyond my means). Confusion can be blissfull sometimes.:confused::confused:

even the Israelis

Missed that one, there mr. citizen of the world (very convenient it seems. Pick what works best for you personally at the time, then discard it and move on....moral relavitism at its best. I take it back, you are the perfect EU and UN citizen.) A quick read of their short history doesn't find one they've not taken/defeated.

Right or wrong, those are facts.

I discount the Lebanon/Hizbollah dust up of 2006(?) since I don't think they intended to occupy (again.).

edited: con, thanks for the invite, but we all know that A) who's got the biggest - all the other wanna-be's carp from the sideline while we go and screw the cheerleader (with apologies to Sean Connery in "The Rock" and B) taking Mrs. Brick out for tapas tonight.

(BTW, during my runs through Tinker, I saw very few OU ladies like the one featured - all the women I found (I was single) were with one or two young uns in tow.......)

Please accept my sincere apologies if I ever gave the impression that the French, French-Canadian forces, or any other forces of French origins etc., were / are not to be counted on or otherwise respected for their previous and / or continuing valiant contributions to warfare and / or modern peace-keeping. Thanks for the link to the Van Doos :ok:

My American colleagues here on JB are much more specialised at that sort of thing and have perfected the practice of maligning all things French down to a fine art: forgive them Mon Seigneur - they know not what they do...

(Have a great time Brick. God I miss real Tapas. Don't have any here. :()

(Another fun fact of Oklahoma; claims to be so religious (Baptist) and has one of the highest, if not highest divorce rate of the U.S. Go figure. :p)

Oops, just noticed this.

From my dear friend airship. ;)

And then con-pilot waded in and pretty well made clear he thought that rotornut was probably talking about the French, as I reread:

Nope. Wrong as usual.

A. Didn't wade in, sorry for your misconception. (Nothing new there.)

B. I know you are not French, but that you;

I'm a Brit (when it suits me) and anything else that I'm comfortable with at the time of writing.

Must be nice to change allegiance when it suits you. :suspect:

As regards Airship, I fail to see the difference between him and GWBush.

Airship claims he's only able to live on fags and scotch due to overdraft protection. And didn't he start this diversion by ranting on about GWB's big overdrafts?

So as the old line goes.... "we've already established the nature of your character - now we're simply aguing about the price."
