Aussie Pilots in Brazil

Im an aussie pilot with a Brazilian girlfriend, Im wondering what the deal is with Australian Pilots getting work with Brazilian operators>??? Any inside info on flying jobs in Brazil??

If you have some couple of thousand hours on NGs ou A320 good chances for a job.

Marriage will get you a permanent visa, which in turn will allow you to work. Time estimates (and only such can be given) to obtain the visa after legally marrying your girlfriend may range between 3-4 months to 1-2 years. My recommendation: marry her in Brasil, get the visa in Australia via the Brasilian consulate. After getting the visa, enter Brasil with it, and apply for permanent residency. At this point, you should leave Brasil only for holidays. Police might check on you unexpectedly, and if you happen to be abroad, your residency request will enter hibernation status (yes, documents may hibernate in the tropics, and sometimes for rather more than just a few months....)
The actual work permit, however, may be obtained rather easily. Be sure to check with your prospective employer what the requirements are. If you need an ID, be prepared for another long wait until you get it...

My very personal and highly subjective advice: spend the effort necessary to set foot in the Brasilian work market to convince your girlfriend to move to Australia... I tried unsuccessfully, that's why I live here now. But I am sure glad that I am able to say to myself, that at least I tried :)

Why leave Australia to work here?

The salary is relatively poor, even by local standards, unless you get to the top of the tree and fly international as a captain. There are thousands (literally) of Brazilians busting a gut to even get to the selection process, most of them with plenty of hours and some with type ratings. Unless you can bring something really special to the table you have very little chance, if you do have a couple of thousand hours on the 737NG/320 then you MIGHT get a look in, after you complete all the paperwork. How's your Portuguese BTW?

Sorry, Pierre is right, you would be better persuading your girlfriend to move to Australia.

Just marrying your girlfriend and asking for a work permit in Brazil is not enough. For working in Brazil as a professional pilot you must hold the brazilian nationality. So, after getting married, you will have to live in Brazil for at least a couple of years, and than apply for the brazilian citizenship. In your particular case, I would rather do the other way round. Bring her to Australia. By the way, the aviation jobs in Brazil in the present moment are quite bad, as about 600 of the more experienced brazilian pilots are working abroad.

I do not know why people insists to ask non related aviation issues (legal procedures, immigration topics, work permits, residency requests, working as a foreigner in a certain country…etc) on this forum. :confused: Have you seen how many different replies did you receive? I am pretty sure that all of them are very well intentioned but believe me the best answer will come from the correct institution. Ask your girlfriend to go or write to the home affairs ministry in Brazil or just visit your nearest Brazilian consulate in Australia!

I wouldn't put money on that happening :confused: For a start which institution do you ask? A consulate will have to consult with ANAC, who will have to consult with the Ministry of Defence, who will probably have conflicting opinions. Unless you have experience of red tape here in Brazil you don't know how much fun it can be.....departments within the same ministry often have conflicting advice :ugh:

The only difference in the information given is whether marriage is enough or do you need to be naturalized to fly commercially. I spoke to a contact at ANAC yesterday and they couldn't give me a definitive answer :ugh:

At least on this forum you can get friendly confusing information :ok:

I also do not see much conflicting information here. It's pretty clear:
- marry (having a child will help, but, well... ) for getting permanent visa/residency,
- possibly naturalisation (possible after 5 years, if you behave well :) )

Do not know if it's necessary to be naturalised for a flying job, but it's certainly the case for any government related employer.
Besides, both me and alemaobaiano are living here, and both suggest to (at least) try to convince your girlfriend to move to Australia... hmmm ....
Contacting Brasilian Consulate and/or ANAC is certainly worthwhile.

I also agree. Take her to Australia. Moving here is not worth it..........
