South African Airways officials have denied that millions of rands in bonuses have been paid to its top management this year.

Worker's Union Satawu recently lashed out at the airline saying that SAA top brass were awarded R72m in bonuses.

The Democratic Alliance's Manie van Dyk says SAA needs to explain this decision because they’re losing money this way.

SAA's Robyn Chalmers says Satawu's claims are based on new payment packages implemented by the airline.

Sounds about right for the new class of manager/gravy train passenger currently in vogue. These are the kind of parasites who would be filling their pockets with the silverware in the dining room while the Titanic goes down. Unfortunately it's not just confined to SAA as we've recently discovered.

Somebody told me today that they were informed by the union that 'the company' said there is no money to give the people from technical a raise (again) or a salary adjustment. This doesn't surprise me since all the money is in management's back pockets!

I hope mr. Randeree enjoys his retention package of R23k+ he's getting extra every month for the next 36 months. May the vile vermin choke in their 30 pieces of silver they sold us out for.

Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill guys. Some of the people who got a Retention Bonus earn R100 000 less than a starting P3. Pilots have been getting a Retention Bonus since 1988 do to their 'Premium over Market' salary structure.

I don't have to make mountains out of mole hills devinehover, SAA management is doing that by themselves. I don't know how much the entry level P3 salary you spoke about is but I can bet you its a hellava lot more than what the tech's get (you know... the guys that keeps the devinely hovering...).

SAA decided we can't have increases at this stage but they want to adjust our allowances. I.a.w. we get shafted on pension and overtime again. That adjustment has not been agreed apon incidently. Some of the guys starting at express now will be getting a basic of aroundabout 20k a month, thats without any certs. A single cert tech at SAA gets a basic of just above the 11k mark. More or less the diffirence between a mountain and a mole heap wouldn't you say?

To top it all off we had to hear that amids all this fighting (a losing battle) for an increase the company decided to give the managers quite a hefty increase while refusing to give the tech's any increase. That came into effect on last week monday.

It's funny how Kaya told the papers that an agreement has been signed with the unions and that everybody is happy. I overheard someone saying that 80% of the tech's at SAA is looking for other work, does that sound like a happy workforce? The only people NOT looking for other work is the guys close to pension and the ones that know they wouldn't make it outside because they are completely incompetant.

Perhaps you missed my point. Some of the guys who recieved a retention bonus earn a lot less than a P3. That's my point. I didn't agree with management bonuses been paid. It's just that the amount that were paid to individuals were not as big as the rumour (isn't this always the case). I didn't want this side issue to effect the SAAPA vote.
