It is understood the little girl was among a group of 24 Eritrean nationals who were part of a repatriation programme being organised by the International Organisation for Migration.
I thought Eritrea was south of Germany not West:confused:

A very sad story. Radio news coverage here in Ireland is highlighting the efforts of crew, PAX one of whom is a doctor (possibly a paediatrician) who intervened to help.
