B Sousa 8th January 2008, 03:15 I doubt you will find any "For Hire Helicopters" here in La$ Vega$. I think the only one that is cheap enough for training will be Silver State Helicopters. They have a website.
You may want to check with guys like NrFairy. I know he rented one in Southern California some years back. Others here also get block time somewhere in Southern California.
Getting a conversion is not as easy as you make it sound.....

NYhelipilot 11th January 2008, 20:36 Also try Red Rock aviation in North Las Vegas (if you want R44).

Hooloovoo 16th April 2008, 10:24 I've done a search on this, and found a few threads but most of the links seem to be dead now so I thought I would ask if anyone has fresh information......
I'm currently just over 30 hours into my UK JAA PPL(H) and I'm interested in doing an hour or two with an instructor whilst I'm in Las Vegas towards the end of May. Can anyone recommend a nearby flight school operating R22/R44?
I've Googled and found www.vegasairservicellc.com, but they haven't responded to an email I sent them a couple of days ago so I don't know if they are still open. There is also www.pintoaviation.us but they no longer offer helicopter training they are fixed wing only. I've been pointed in the direction of Stars & Stripes Air Services but that looks to be another name for Silver State Helicopters who do not seem to have a very good reputation on PPRUNE. Finally there is http://www.westairaviation.com but they do not train using Robinson helicopters.
I'm mainly interested in general sightseeing around the city, where the instructor would handle the unfamiliar radio and navigation whilst I just concentrate on flying the aircraft.
I know the time would not count towards the 45 hours required for my JAA license issue, but am I right in thinking that I can still log the hours towards my total time?
Thanks for any help you can offer!
rick1128 16th April 2008, 14:12 I do know there is at least one school out of North Las Vegas Airport and one out of Boulder.
Enjoy the sights.
Gordy 16th April 2008, 16:39 I passed through Boulder City last year on my way to North Dakota, and met the people at Vegas Air Service, I also happen to know the owner. Not sure why they have not responded to e-mail, but will find out. They have a variety of aircraft to choose from, and I would recommend going there.
levo 16th April 2008, 20:23 Hi just got back from vegas and never saw a 22/44/300 wanted to fly the same as you mostly ec130 . there is a little airfield at Jean just south of vegas the city would only take 30 mins to see Grand canyon is about 1 hour in heli and something you wont forget try Maveric helicopters but dont buy the video / dvd of the flight its of poor quality .
Levo.
NYhelipilot 16th April 2008, 22:27 There used to be a company called Red Rock Aviation in/near Vegas.
www.redrockaviation.com (http://www.redrockaviation.com/) points you to www.flightpro42.com (http://www.flightpro42.com/) where the following message is displayed.
"If you arrived at this website looking for Red Rock Aviation, please be advised that the owners of that school have parted ways. You can contact Michael Gerlicher at (702) 354-8698 for further information regarding flight training in the greater Las Vegas area."
Hooloovoo 17th April 2008, 08:55 Gordy: Thanks, it's good to get a personal recommendation. Maybe they have replied and it's just got lost in my spam, but I don't think I've missed it. Maybe I'll try sending it again. If I can't contact them before hand then I'll just turn up on one of the days I'm over there and hope they aren't too busy.
levo: I actually did one of the Vegas/Grand Canyon heli tours a few years ago now. I swore to myself back then that the next time I'm in Vegas I'll be flying and not sitting as a passenger. I agree if I was just interested in sightseeing then one of the commercial tours would probably be best. But I specifically want to fly around the sights myself.
NYhelipilot: Red Rock is another one of the sites I found which didn't actually work anymore, and flightpro42 doesn't seem to have much in the way of information. Thanks anyway.
Thanks everyone - I'll give Vegas Air Service a try and see if they help me out.

Hooloovoo 17th April 2008, 21:32 Thanks. As I said in the OP I did search and read the threads on Las Vegas including the one to which you have linked, but the information was out of date.
