[Current Limiter]

Was flying on SAA as a passenger last month from LHR to JNB and noticed that the flight info page on the entertainment system was giving an altitude of 37250ft. Is this a tactic used by the airlines similar to the track off-set method on trans-atlantic crossings, or just the system which was mis-calibrated, or perhaps the difference between QNH and standard? Does anyone use track off-set in Africa?

to my knowledge SAA still use track offset method when flying, we being trained to their sop's had to fly 1nm right off track when flying on airways where there was no radar coverage, but never heard of this vetical method of remaining off track...was it holding 250' above altitude all the way or was it later on corrected ?

In my limited experience, it does not matter how far off track you are, you are still going to come face to face with an AN12 or IL76. Keep it safe chaps
