Hi Guys (and Gals),

Whilst growing up in UK I remember that in the 1990’s STV/ITV showed the program Rescue following the work of the RAF Rescue helicopter (I think it was filmed by Paul Berriff). I have one episode on VHS (and the book)but am trying to get the series (13 episodes?) on DVD/VHS, but no luck so far.:{

Does anyone remember the series and does anyone have any ideas where I might get a copy of the series? (I have tried a forum search, ebay, and amazon)

Thanks Alex :)

Hi Landy01

The series was shot at RAF Lossiemouth and the director/producer was Paul Berriff. The film crew stayed with the flight for a year and filmed many headline callouts, the most famous being Piper Alpha, the N Sea oil rig which caught fire with tragic loss of life. Though they nearly missed that as they were in the Chinese Restaurant when the call came and only just made it back in time to board the second standby a/c;)

I don't think that a video/DVD as made of the series but I may be wrong.

HF

(Even though PB made a bit of money on the series the crews still had to buy their own copies of the Rescue book:{)

Paul Berriff being picked up by the Leuchars Wessex after the Lossie Seaking, on which he was filming "Rescue", had a very heavy landing in the hills.................note the handy rock as a step..and 'rock steady' single wheel hover!

Bertie

"had a very heavy landing" is an understatement;)

It ended up as just a box containing the crew and engines:eek:

It was rebuilt though - or at least they used the number XV585 ( if memory is functioning:E) as there was money in the rebuild budget but not to buy a new one!

HF

(The SAR building is still in use at Leuchars - by the UAS and AEF - very comfy:ok: Good to see they had very fast film then to capture your?? steady hover;))

Adam; not quite; the sun is on the left, so no reflection off the gold tooth!

2 minutes earlier while parked firmly on the ground, rotors turning, at the crash site, about 25 minutes after the accident, our Wessex airframe shook violently and I looked in to see the ASI dropping through 70 kts! Perfect conditions for a bit of SK training in Creag Meagaidh!

Thanks but I'm looking for the missing 5 episodes. I've already split the Youtube video up into the respective 8 episodes and in the right order, on my media server. The missing episodes are 4, 8, 9, 10 and 13. I might contact Scottish Television or ITV and see if they have access to their archives.

That's 3 hours of my life, I'll never get back , but in a good way.

Watched this as a teenager , and it was one of many things that drove me into helicopter flying.

USCG exchange pilot on D Flt and featured in the series, two decades later as a CSC S-61N pilot (assigned to Autec) broke a nice record ferrying a S-61N after maintenance with Heli-One in Vancouver

Wondered how many of the crews ended up back in SHF after their tour there, and served in Desert Storm

Nearly 15 minutes of fame in Ep.11, from 02:50:00, which was my first callout.
