Hi Guys, im 19 years old and i have 11 GCSE'S all between A-C

My Physics, Chemistry and Biology were C's and my Mathematics was a C.

I then went on to study A-levels in which i got BB in Ict and a D in Law comming out with BBD all together.

I started a Computer Science Degree at Brunel University and i found it very boring, and it just did not appeal to me at all so i chucked university in.

I have had a very strong interest in becoming a commericial pilot from day one but i have always had the thought that i must have A's in alevels in Physics and Mathematics however i found this to be very untrue.

I have around 3 hours flying experience i started when i was 16 for my PPL but due to financial reasons i was unable to persue this, now however my parents are doing well and are fully behind me and are willing to support me financially to do the Piloting.

I quit university in January, and i recently got a job with British Airways as a Customer Service Agent and the pay is good 18K, but i did not take it just for the money, ofcourse that 18K will go a very long way in helping me fund my piloting but it will also give me great opportunities to socialise with current pilots, and ofcourse i am working for British Airways and i hope they consider me as a pilot after i have all the required licenses and
hours offcourse with the reccomendation to interviewers from the current captains and pilots who are now my good friends!

I am due to start my PPL again in the upcoming weeks at the WHITE WALTHAM AIRFIELD- http://www.wlac.co.uk/index.htm or with http://www.bafc.co.uk/ as spring is here now, and i aim to complete my PPL this summer whilst working full time, after my probation period is over with British Airways i will go part time and then my plan is to regularly go to America as i will get very cheap flights because of my job and build my PPL hours their or to build my hours here this summer. Then my plan is to sit my 14 ATPL exams during the autumn and winter time because flying will be very limited here in the U.K, after completing my ATPL summer will be here again then i plan to complete my CPL or before summer begins here in the U.K off to America again to do my CPL, after this i will complete the required licenses as quick as possible, by this time i aim to be 21 years old, then obviously is the hour building in America ofcourse because of weather, Cost etc
This therefore leaves me at the age of 21 still or nearing 22 because i will be 20 in October this year. And then my aim is to hopefully be in a job asap as young as possible.

My only major concern is the factor of me not having A-Levels in mathematics or physics but i do however have Alevels in other subjects and have the required grades at GCSE.

Could you guys give me your views on what you think of my ambitions and plans and which training school i should do my PPL with.

Thankyou

Nav

Many people will disagree with this... but personally I would stay away from the states.

The states aren't as cheap as people think when you include accommodation, visa's, flights, food etc. It can cost the same, if not more in some cases.

You would also miss the experience of flying within the UK.

I wouldn't worry about your maths or physics, as long as you do well in your pilot training and get the right contacts there shouldn't be an issue.

With regard to your academic qualifications, I wouldn't worry about it.

Qualifications are only really important if you're trying got get sponsored, and seeing as though they are more or less non-existant these days, you're fine.

I wasn't a huge academic in school, but managed to get sponsored with a non-flying related degree, but a PPL - you'll soon make maths and physics an interest if you want something bad enough!

hey nav your in almost the same circumstance as me. i just finished my A-levels with a b,c,e in maths physics and chem(god i hate chem). anyway i was going to go to university but decided that my flying was more important to me rather than uni. I gained a couple of hours at air training corps but other than that nothing else. then for a while i decide to get a job at baa till i figured out what to do.
After a while around nov i got my first class medical and went for some pilapt tests with cabair and ctc. got offered places from both of them. I was thinking of just going for one of them and getting a hsbc loan to cover the amount but my parents said they would fund me so I decided to go with america and am starting my ATPL course in less than a week an orlando flight training. i guess i chose them because they are affiliated with cabair and give me a JAR licence and are about half the price of the UK intergrated routes.
anyhow this forum has helped me a lot and everyones got different opinions so choose the way which will best suite you. and i dont think the A levels are going to matter too much. on the other hand you could go to BCUC uni and gain a ATPL and a degree in three years taking a loan through hsbc and student finance. theyre enrty requirements are not bad and its a backupplan and a licence in one if you want a degree aswell.
