Please can anyone that has progressed via the modular route to CPLH and IR, other than bank loans or remortgaging the house, what options are available to me to finance the hours building, CPLH and IR courses.

Rob a bank? Win the lottery, perhaps (I hear that's popular for pension planning, too)?

Sell a business?
'Play the markets'? (ie Speculate on the imminant economic downturn)
Borrow off friends and/or family?

What you're essentially asking is 'how can I raise £100k without borrowing?' Right? Well, I'm afraid that there isn't really an easy answer. Otherwise we would all be doing it!

(But step 1 should be: reduce your costs and increase your income. This might mean moving back in with your parents (if this is an option), cutting back on your socialising, driving a banger (if at all) and working multiple jobs. This seems to have worked for some of the FW types over on Wannabees.)

Thank god for that, I thought I might have to work the streets or sell non vital bodily parts for medical research.

Does anyone know of any bank that provides help with career development loans? HSBC do not recognise a career as a helicopter pilot, why ever not!

Having been through the whole process over the last 3 years, I reckon £100k to IR, is a bit conservative now, what with rising fuel prices etc. Just the ME IR is at least £40k.

Try Brian Kane, Aerofinance.

you'll need security, but they are quite flexible.

Good luck,

HSBC do recognise helicopter pilot for the professional career development loan - it just depends on the branch. Try other branches if yours won't. That said, they'll only loan you up to £25k without security (ie. a house or similar).

Thanks to all that have replied, this was also my first post on PPRuNe. I will contact Aerofinance and HSBC.

Good Easter to all.

I contacted Brian at Aerofinance, what a thoroughly decent and gentle man he is. It was a pleasure talking with him today. Thank you for recommending him.
