Ah come on, that's some good gen. Would love to know the difference between the "shelf price" and a bond. How about sharing it with the rest of us :}

Why would you want to do it in SA when you can do it in the US for cheaper and it is internationally recognized?

Does Comair still offer "off the shelf" type ratings on the 737?

But if you do it in the States does the SA CAA recognise your rating?

Groskin - I don't know what is you flying experience but ComAir asks for 800h total time prior to the rating which is quite unique, but thats SA for you.

B200 - who says that if you do TR in SA and put it your license wont be internationally recognized + getting US visa for some people is not that easy

Yes the SACAA do recognize your FAA type rating, if you take all your paperwork with you. I have done it twice.

I have first hand experience that SA types are not recognized by either EASA or the FAA. Your time on type is accepted but not the rating. SA has NO FAA or EASA approved flight training institutions.
Getting a visa to do the training in the USA is very straight forward, it just takes a bit of time and doing things in the proper sequence.

B200- Thanks for the input on validity of ratings done in SA, didn't know about that.

In regards to US visa, I am afraid its everything but straight forward process, even when you follow all the steps and have all the documents ready. It largely depends on the country where you apply for your visa and unfortunately sometimes it depends on the mood of person interviewing you.
