50 feet utter madness

After reading XX621's post I felt I could keep it to myself no longer, I was sitting outside the pub the other day when a single engined aeroplane flew over so low you could see the pilots inside and it made such a noise it must have been directly over a school which is next to the pub very very low.

Is this normal aviation practice?? ............ oh yeah the pub was the Battle Axes and its on the end of the runway at EGTR lol:=

Depends on the weather...

If the pub is at the end of the runway, what would you expect? A plane doesn't gain height rapidly when it has a small engine.

Although, I do wonder how planning was approved for the pub/runway.

May I suggest that in order to save yourself from what must have been a terrifying experience that you try the 3 Compasses instead of the Battle Axes? From memory, there were enough distractions there (especially during the summer) to ensure that you wouldn't notice any low flying that occurs (of the aviation type anyway:E)

Let's see here....average person's vision....clear skies ( I was sitting outside the Pub your Honour...)...well...golly gee!

A quarter mile that could be I reckon....or could one be a bit more specific.

From the arrival end of the runway....what was the lateral distance from the extended centerline and how far from the threshold marks would this have been?

Does it not strike one as odd...that an airplane in the process of landing might get close to things and folks on the ground?

Do you wet yer pants when an articulated lorry passes the side of your auto going the other way at some great speed or is it just airplanes that cause you these anxiety attacks?:ugh:

The pilot has a school detector fitted so that when he is going through his emergency checks after the engine has quit, he can take avoiding action.

In my younger days I spent many happy hours in and outside the Battle Axes.....and I'd say the darned flybhoys and girls in their aerial machines were lower than 50 ft! Why, I'd swear that on occasions they'd shout down their orders as they passed, only to join us a few minutes later.

3 Compasses were none too bad neither.
