How do the JAA and FAA differ? how much would i expect to pay for each? If i have PPL with IMC/NQ does me NQ and IMC convert directly over to my PPL(H)?

JAA is very cheap, easy and a whole lot of fun. FAA is the same just spelt differently.

JAA will cost you a few thousand quid whereas FAA will cost a few thousand dollars.

Not sure about the conversion. if i was you i'd fire an email off to the CAA. They will send you a very informative and easy to read reply with all the exact details your looking for.

After you get your licence you should post back on here and someone will give you a very high paid job.

They differ quite a lot in training (especially with regard to theory) and your licence privileges will be different. You will have much less freedom with an FAA PPL(H) in the UK than with a JAA PPL(H).

There ain't no such thing as a PPL(H) IMC rating and you can't get an NQ until you have 100 hours post-PPL qualification i.e. until a minimum of 145 hours!!!

If you already hold a JAA PPL(A), you should have heard of LASORS; all the information is contained within! If you already hold an FAA PPL(A) and are in Lytham, then you should know the differences.

Malc/rapid, no, my comment was aimed at the original questioner - by all means ask what an 'NQ' is : in isolation, I wouldn't guess.

I was more disturbed by the prospect of a PPL flying IFR with such a basic, and inadequate, grasp of the regulations. It might not be 'my' airspace, but it sure as hell is when I'm sharing it!!!

Do you guys with CPL(H) have a NQ endorsed in a "remarks" section of your CPL(H)?

I know that a CPL(H) implies the NQ since 5 hours of night time is a requirement for the issuance of CPL and that is evident from one's log book, but I would like to know if also NQ should be written in the CPL.

We have recently swiched from national, ICAO licences to JAA licences and nobody has "NQ" endorsed in the CPL(H).

I have a NQ endorsement in my JAR PPL(A) remarks section though (?)

The night flying (and therefore the 'qualification') is obligatory for JAA CPL(H) licences. Therefore the 'NQ' is presumed with a CPL(H) and it won't appear as an additional endorsement.

However, it will appear as an additional endorsement on a PPL(H/A) because it is in addition to the standard PPL syllabus.

Do this make sense?
