Hello,
Maybe I am asking the wrong question altogether, maybe...

I have heard from a lot of people that Airbus gives "free" type ratings if a new airplane is bought from them. Is this true?

If so, shouldn't indigo be having a lot of "free" type ratings for their pilots??

Vinayak,

Not exactly 'free'.

The training is part of the whole package. The airline has paid for it somewhere in the total cost of the airplane but at a lower price. However, if Indigo is going to train 50 pilots for a TR, you won't expect them to provide it for free.

depands upon the company,if they are looking to money making, they don't have to go for training slots.
just order planes and look for the options.
1. resale
2. earn money by charging pilots and enforce bond on them .
as long as running bcz there will be no profits in the region for a long time .
this situation leads to having pilots not devoted to company and they will kick on the first available chance,Means this sort of situation is acceptable by company.
2. sell and buy back........company is foccussed on other angles than being aviation bussiness
3...................
4.................
5....................

or calculations of the companies have not gone as they planned.
1. using public funds
2.getting in investors
3. fuel cost from 30 to 110$

Normally for new a/c purchase training crew is almost free.
one a/c = 6 to10 crew training almost free.
+lot of motivation injected to the pilots by the manufecturer while undergoing training.
watchout trends over next one year, results will be on the table
