I can't help but share this bit of extraordinary radiotelephony I overheard at Lusaka between the tower and Zambian 306 (B737-200) yesterday.

ATC: "Zambian 306, Rwy 10, Cleared for Take-off, wind XXXXX"
Zambian 306: "I know which one the active runway is!"
ATC: "...yes, Sir, ..... it's just a confirmation..."
Zambian 306: "What do you think I'm going west??"
Zambian 306 promptly takes off!

Thank goodness I'm not this guy's poor F/O. Imagine flying with this esteemed captain

I was over flying Pilansberg last year when I over heard the following conversaton.

It was a bit hazy on the day..... +- 10 am

pilot - Pilansberg cessna xxx 10 miles to the south inbound

atc - cessna xxx active runway xx winds xx report 4 miles

pilot - cessna xxx could you please activate the runway lights

atc - isch..... for what

pilot - (after a long pause) cessna xxx I cannot locate the runway in the haze

atc - isch ... its day time the lights will not help

at this point I had tears rolling down my face and did not hear the end of this conversation as I switched frequencies......

We were at an airport one day with one of the female pilots boyfriends, she flew overhead on a hazy day and he looked up and said "why does that plane have flashing lights on the wing? its day time! is the pilot stupid?" not realising it was his belovid. My mate asked "oh? can you see those?", "yes", "so can every other aircraft up there, but if you dont believe us, as your gal when she lands" he quikley realised it was her and shut up.

I could write a book of all the things i have heard at FLLS.
They usually end with the controller saying "aah, sorry for that."
