I have a friend, FAA CFI (with commercial FAA ticket), who is looking to move to the UK to instruct. What hoops will he need to jump through to get his JAA instructor ticket?

Is there a short-cut system (as used by Bristows academy to teach JAA with FAA instructors)?

I'm sorry about asking a question that must have been asked a million times, but the inability to search for FAA, CFI, JAA etc. makes life a little difficult...

Sam.

He will need to take the CPL or ATPL exams, convert the CPL with training as required and then also convert the FI ticket with a 15 hour course assuming he is already over 250 hours total time.

That is slightly shorter than having to do 2 full 30 hour courses but there is no credit for theory.

I'm doing just that at the minute. I'm a FAA CFII and I've been the taking CAPT online ATPL(H) course since mid December and intend to do the FI rating also eventually. Tell your buddy he can email me with any questions he may have if he likes.
