A Navy Seasprite helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing at Wenderholm Regional park, north of Auckland, this afternoon.
Technicians have been sent from Whenuapai Airbase to inspect the helicopter, Radio New Zealand reported.
Instruments in the cockpit indicated the helicopter may have had an overheated gearbox.
Two fire engines and five police cars were called to the scene.
Security guards may be posted if the helicopter is not able to take off tonight, a Defence Force spokesperson said.

Having worked on the Seasprites for a couple of years I know that the Navy are pretty happy with them. The only issues are parts and how hard they are to get....Although I know of one outfit that probably has tons of spare parts now...:E
I personally think the Superlynx would have been the better choice as the Seasprite is an orphan thats becoming harder to feed as time goes by.
Whatever happens I'm sure the Kiwis will just keep on trucking with what they have.
