NATIONWIDE executive manager, Rodger Whittle, confirmed this week that there was “strong interest” in the carrier. “Two consortiums are presently in advanced negotiations with us with regard to investment. Both of these offers appear very enticing and we are currently conducting a detailed review of the offers to see which may have a better fit with Nationwide Airlines,” said Rodger.
The selection of Nationwide’s future investment or equity partner, says Rodger, will not be based purely on financial matters. “We believe that a potential partner must also bring additional strategic value – which is aligned with our vision – to the company,” he said.
Meanwhile, following the retrenchment of 54 employees, the airline has shelved talks on further lay-offs, claims trade union, Solidarity. The retrenchments came after Nationwide’s Aviation Maintenance Organisation (AMO) licence was revoked at the end of last year.
“Nationwide has certainly been feeling the pressure since its problems began in November. The fact that the airline lost substantial income during the December and January holiday months was a contributory factor,” says Solidarity spokesperson, Jaco Kleynhans. - Nownews
