Tried understanding the CAA Website, but to no avail. If someone could explain in simple terms for me please.

I have done the 14 written exams. Did my CPL/IR a while ago. Now I hold a A320 Type rating with +500 hours. Time to get my ATP unfrozen.

Apart from filling the form in and giving the CAA more of my money what actually needs to be done?

Do I need a check ride?

Can I get this check ride as part of my OPC ?

Thanks for the info

Before you can unfreeze you need 1500 hours + total time as well

David you need to do an ATPL skills test. It is essentially an LPC with the additional requirement of a manually flown, raw data ILS. If you're on the 'bus that means manual thrust aswell!;)

You will need to ensure the examiner fills out the appropriate skills test form - you can download this from the CAA website. They will also require your logbook or a printout of your hours if you use skylog, with each page signed by you. It is also helpful to get your airline to include a covering letter confirming the hours you have completed with them.

It's also worth checking LASORS to check the hours requirement and to make sure you fill the application form in correctly. Again this is available for download from the CAA website.

just a little note:

For the purpose of licence issue, your medical needs to be issued by the same country as the new licence will be, seeing that you are located in Spain.

Also, the UK CAA may or may not accept a Spanish JAA TRE for the ATPL check ride, even if they accept him for renewals.

Just check, not to get a nasty surprise when you hand in the papers...

cheers IP.

Guys, quick question. I would ring the CAA but the last two times I have been number 3 in the queue for what seemed eternity and I just cant afford the phone bill anymore!
I'm in the process of looking for another job and as you are aware no doubt, starting salaries for a few companies depend on whether you have your ATPL or not. I have the hours requirements for the ATPL but my LPC is not due until July with my present company. If I was to move prior to July, would the LST/LPC at the end of the company conversion course be able to be used as the ATPL skills test? You normally do the raw data ILS on a check ride anyway if I'm not mistaken.
Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

If you have the hours requirement for ATPL issue you can do the skills test at any time.A far as I'm aware you can even hire a sim and pay a TRE to do the test for you if you wanted (and had cash to burn:eek:)

So I can't see why your LPC/LST at the end of your conversion course can't be your ATPL skills test as long as the TRE agrees. Just make sure he/she fills in the correct form as I know a few guys who have come unstuck that way!
