For those of us that have been out of the loop for a while, who is on this particular suspects list?

Indeed, I have heard good things about that station buffet. Don't forget also, a fair few metal cans manouvering overhead (assuming westerlies at EGCC).

Anyone going to admit to being on the "usual suspects" list?

Oi some of us were brought up in that neighbourhood. (But now I have moved on I have to say I wouldn’t rush back.)

I cant believe the station bar is still going after all this time, BR, Network rail etc all tried to close it I believe. It served a great pint of Boddingtons in my younger days.

The trick was to be the BR Landlord to the Licensing Trade landlord - that stopped the war!

What's the best bet for parking? I'm guessing park at the station & walk to the restaurant

7th Mar 2008, 20:51
Westie, you'll be better off parking at the restaurant, which is a council run car park so it costs a £1 (thieving barstewards). There is no parking at the station right now. Obvioulsy me and him are eating and u/t pilots are welcome too! The more the merrier!

Is this the Stalybridge that is not unadjacent to Ashton-under-Lyne? (AuL is where I spent my formative years). I always thought that the master plan was to fill Stalybridge in from Thompson Cross to Bower Fold.:ok:

No No - the Huddersfield Canal has been opened out and you can moor up in "Armentieres Square" in the centre of the scenic little town and go and shop in Tesco.

Alternatively you can grapple your way up the hill along Mottram Road to watch Celtic play - at Bower Fold.

The chinese where we eat is actually on the canal and you can moor up to eat.

StaleyVegas -who made that up? Its still the same old place in the daytime, but it does have a twinkle at night - and some damn good beer at the Buffet Bar!

I'm really fed up that I just spotted this notification of
a gathering at Stalybridge, and later at the station bar.
I would have loved to just turn up in the bar to watch
the fun.
I was born in Cockbrook, Ashton many years ago, and
lived there until I joined the RAF as a brat in 1959.
The connection I have with your chosen venue is that
there used to be a pub just down from the station.
Can't remember the name of it, Probably The Railway
Tavern, or whatever.
In 1942 my Dad took me for a walk and met a couple
of his mates in the pub, leaving ME outside.
After a while they adjourned to the staion bar for a
change, and left the pram, with me still in it, outside
the Pub.
The Landlady took me in, my Dad got home later, and,
According to my Mum, Who had noticed that I wasn't
with him, Did the just over a mile back to the pub in
a couple of minutes, Roger Bannister bore no comparison.
I always feel that this event had a profound effect on
me in later life. I love pubs. Sad Innit?
As a P.S. I STILL follow the fotunes of Celtic on the
various web sites. Doing well so far this season.
Pity Hyde seem to be doing better:sad: Whoops,
I've just checked Blue Square North.
Hyde are NOT doing better. Sorry.:ok:
