Hey guys,

I'm looking for info on the maintenance requirements of the LTS101-700D-2 engine found in SD2 squirrells, specifically in terms of start/cycle limited components and the average "cost" per start/cycle (but anything and everything relevant to the engine is also most welcome :) )

Thanks a lot

The following cost breakdown is based on 2007 pricing. Depending on the operation your cycles for operational hour will vary. Honeywell Service Bulletin LT 101-71-00-0002 give you two methods for counting cycles, Method I and Method II. Method II will get the most out of the engine but is too difficult to count manually. Method I can be used easily with a little practice. Soloy offers the AKV cycle counter for about $3,500 that uses Method II to keep track of the cycles.

thanks so much for the reply david, that was exactly what I was after.

Do you know of anywhere online where all the service bulletins for the engine can be found?

So it works out about $25 per flight hour as long as you are less than 1.6 cycles per hour .

Or $13 per Filght hour plus $11 per cycle.

Need to pull out my B2 DOC calculations but that seems from recollection way lower than the Turbomeca . Anyone have the Conklin figures handy ?.

You can't find the LTS101 service information on line but it does come on a CD with the engine conversion. If you are looking for the cycle counting information you can send me your email at [email protected] and I will email you SB LT 101-71-00-0002 which contains the information.

I heard last week that the dynamic component overhaul lives are altered with one of these conversions. Does anyone know if this is correct and what effect it would have on overhaul times?

Are these engines now certified in UK ? Also which engine can you fir to a AS 350 BA without having to change a lot of parts ? I am keen to sell my new Turbomeca engine and go to the LTS 101. I also hear that fuel consumption is circa 10% better , same power albeit a slightly slower wind up of power. Anyone done this yet in UK ?

Look like the SD1 is not yet approved.

The Soloy AS350 modifications to LTS101 series engines are for the AS350BA and B2. Although earlier D and B models can be upgraded the paperwork trail is not as strong as traditional Soloy products, these certifications were purchased by Soloy from a third party. Soloy originally certified the AS350B2 with the LTS101-700D-2 then applied the same kit into the AS350BA using the LTS101-600A-3A. These two kits are commonly referred to as the AS350SD1 and SD2.

The SD1 and SD2 are FAA approved and the SD2 is EASA approved. The SD1 is currently being evaluated for EASA approval.

Soloy has delivered over 80 SD1 and SD2 conversions and the first SD2 in Europe is currently operating in Austria. The second kit has been delivered to France and is scheduled to fly next month.

Reports of fuel savings are from 3 to 8 gph and the B2 performance charts can be achieved with plenty of T4 and Ng margin, even hot and high.

Contact Soloy Aviation Solutions to relieve the pain at the pump and keep your aircraft where it belongs.......in the air. Hows that for a pitch?

The Soloy conversion for the AS350B2 does not alter any of the life limits of the helicopter. Although the long tailrotor shaft from the AS355 is used and has a shorter life than when installed on the AS355.

Hi,

I am currently flying a SD1 and our AKV inc. cycle counter box has gone U/S. Has anyone had this before?

Also i have had a look through SB LT 101-71-00-0002 (only have pages 9-16) and it doesn't seem very straight forward as to how to count the NG cycles and NP cycles. I was wondering if anyone had a quick guide on how to work it. If so please PM me.

Thank you in advance
NiB.

Just make sure it doesn't burn the tailboom off!!

IN 2515-I-53 FUSELAGE - MAIN STRUCTURE - Distorted tail boom following the use of a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC)

EUROCOPTER has received a report of permanent distortion caused by overheating of the LH tail boom skin of
an AS350 B2 helicopter equipped with a Honeywell Lycoming engine installed

interesting to see if the machine with the bent tail boom had been used for a significant amount of longlining. The exhaust sooting can get quite bad outside the heat shielded area with some paint marking. ;)
