When my wife and I and 2 kids checked in 20:00hrs last Thursday (going LAX to SYD on Qantas dep 23:45) we were told the aircraft had not yet left JFK-aircraft problem. With storms closing in from the north things looked bleak. We kindly accepted their offer to get us home on another scheduled QF flight leaving approx same time via Melbourne at no extra charge.:D In hindsight,we were fortunate as the original flight arrived into SYD 12hrs late!!
My question is if we hadn't been able to secure seats would Qantas have normally put us up at a hotel for what turned out to be an early Friday morning on our originally schedule flight?? Maybe if we had complained enough?? Or the other scenario would have been tough luck-sit tight at LAX overnight & pay our own hotel cost!!:ouch:

You probably would have been given a hotel room either because that is the Qantas policy or they are bound by law but not because you complain enough. That is not really fair to the other 300 or so pax.
