Bromide in the canteen tea ???

ITS Cranwell 1952.

Many of my married course mates were convinced there was (as their wives were complaining) when they grabbed the 48 hour pass home on the all-too- rare weekend.:{
They complained officially but it was Vigorously denied. It was suggested that the newly fashionable y-fronts could have the same disappointing result !!??:bored:

I cannot speak for 1952, but in 1951 I can state with certainty that it was either 1. a myth, or 2. the dose was so weak as to be ineffectual.

I seem to remember we had this debate when I was at Mons OCS in the sixties. We came to the conclusion that because we were so unfit and the workload (mental and physical) so great, we were too tired to raise a smile let alone anything else.
