Should i go to Oshkosh, Sun n Fun or AOPA Expo ?!
Anyone been to any of theese shows and can tell me more about it ?
Also.... if anyone is flying to Sun n Fun show, perhaps you could pick up a Swedish pilot at the Orlando International (46nm from Sun n Fun)
Willows 7th January 2008, 01:12 Intriguing list. :) Looks like this summer will be a good one! :ok:
Thanks for posting the links.
fernytickles 7th January 2008, 02:28 SNF is great fun.
Oshkosh is amazing. If you've never been, come 48 hours before opening day (36hrs for SNF) and enjoy the atmosphere of the arrivals, then stay for the whole week.
Those two are the only ones I can tell you about.
IO540 7th January 2008, 09:21 Aero 2007 at Friedrichshafen (EDNY) was the biggest GA airshow I've ever been to, by a very long way. Hangars full of everything from lawn mowers you strap to your back, to bizjets.
The Prague one, which is actually at Pribram (and Pribram where I used to live is to Prague a bit like Luton is to London) should be pretty big and of interest to "sports" pilots.
muggins 7th January 2008, 09:46 What about a visit to Old Warden for one of the Shuttleworth Collection (http://www.shuttleworth.org/shuttleworth_home.asp) flying days? It looks like the dates aren't up yet, but always worth a visit to see history in action. :)
Brandten 7th January 2008, 10:36 Willows:
Oh yes Indeed :)
fernytickles:
Ive read that Ohskosh is the worlds # 1 event and that SNF is # 2 so..... il go for the # 1.
Good tips about being there a couple of days before / after. Traveling from Sweden also so perhaps nice to have a day to "relax" before the show.
IO540:
Do you have more information about Friedrichshafen ? You know if there is a show in 2008 and what kind of planes is on the show ?
About the Aero Expo wich is both in Prague and London, is it the same on both locations or is it 2 different shows ?
muggins:
I am not so interested in that kind of old stuff. I want more new GA, G1000 and stuff like that :)
FullyFlapped 7th January 2008, 10:41 I thought I might give "Tannkosh" a try this year ... anyone been ?
Ni Thomas 7th January 2008, 11:42 Friedrichafen event is only held every TWO years
Last one was last year (2007) so mathematically it will next be staged in errrummm ... 2007 + 2 (counting on fingers) = 2009.
In 2007 it was held in mid April so expect roughly the same period in 2009.
A terrific event well worth a visit. Stomped around for two days and couldn't get enough of it. :ok:
G-APDK 7th January 2008, 12:45 Fully Flapped
If you are after volumes of aircraft Tannheim is the place to go. First visit last year, only 800+ aeroplanes on the Saturday as the weather was not great. Previous years numbers exceeded 1000
Very relaxed atmosphere, no fences and good beer. Wide mix of microlights, VLAs, homebuild, classics, some warbirds (AT-6, PT-17) and the usual GA hardware.
Small static exhibition, e.g Cessna, Cirrus and vintage aircraft. Short display slots during afternoon but steady flow of arrivals from Friday.
http://www.tannkosh.de/ details to be updated soon 19-20-21 July 2008
Camping on airfield but hotels locally in short supply, so book early
Phil
FullyFlapped 7th January 2008, 13:47 Thanks, Phil.
Good social scene ? Party atmosphere ?
FF :ok:
paulc 7th January 2008, 15:52 3rd vote for Oshkosh - have just booked for this year. Staying the whole week - well worth it. There was a thread about the show last year that is probably still around somewhere - some good tips there.
Popham microlight is also a good event (local to me)
smithoag 7th January 2008, 17:37 Could also try the 9th Abingdon Air & Country Show on May 4th and help us to support the local Thames Valley Air Ambulance.
Tickets now available from www.abingdonfayre.com/tickets.php

vintagewizard 8th January 2008, 10:42 Emery Little Insurance organise a jungmann tea party every year, the date is on their web pages, www.emerylittleinsurance.com, always a giggle beautiful aeroplanes and compton abbas is a stunning setting for it!
fernytickles 8th January 2008, 12:56 Paulc and anyone else who comes to Oshkosh, make sure you get to the International Party. Usually on the Thursday or Friday at the Nature Centre. One of the best parties of the whole event :ok:
Brandten 8th January 2008, 14:33 Nice to know.
Right now im trying to find the cheapest tickets to Chicago from Stockholm and then:
- rental car for a week
or
- com. flight to oshkosh (if available)
or
- some PPL pilot come pick me up at ohare and fly me to Oshkosh :)

If you want the Shuttleworth dates for 2008 just click on forthcoming events. They are all listed over several pages.
scooter boy 8th January 2008, 18:57 Personally I would go for Oshkosh and take a few days out to soak up the atmosphere. Fly in if you get the opportunity - that really is a great experience.
S + F is also great but on a slightly smaller scale.
You will see much the same stuff at both the USD shows so I would do one or the other rather than both.
Friedrichshafen is the biggest in Europe and worth a visit but not anything like as huge as the big two in the US .

scooter boy 9th January 2008, 10:30 Great Pics Ken, brought back a lot of good memories.
Did you get any of the Eclipse VLJ? (the belle of the ball IMHO)
I'm very pleased to hear they're having another show this year - I'll try to go.
I did take my camera along but the (rechargeable) battery was dead - so I took some v poor quality shots with my phone which were pretty useless by comparison.
Keep posting the pics,
SB
Brandten 11th January 2008, 11:29 Great pictures ! Just wanna go there even more now. :)
G-APDK 11th January 2008, 12:15 Fully Plapped
Apologies for delay in coming back
I didn't stay on the airfield but a friend who did certainly enjoyed the Friday evening hangar party by his hangover the next morning!
Everyone I spoke to seemed to enjoy the event and there certainly seemed to be a good social atmosphere. They also try to park aircraft types together (where possible given the numbers!) to encourage socialising.
A much smaller event in scale than Tannheim, but the Air-Britain Classic Fly-In North Weald 21-22 June will be a friendly social event too, but there again as its organiser, I am biased!
I've now booked my flights/Hotel for Tannheim and will be there on the Saturday, if you go perhaps we could meet for a beer. Enjoy wherever you go
eurostar builder 11th January 2008, 18:48 No1 .... Show Oshkosh.
4 of us did it last year - wow a great event.
