While relaxing over my saturday morning coffee (i know, i should be flying something) i came across this 2 part documentary about the history of Allison engines in YouTube. I work closely with the transmission side of Allison (now a different organisation to the engine side), so was curious.

Since the world expectantly awaits the RR300, which i assume is the technical successor to the 250, i would like to know if anyone has any tales about their dealings with Allison. Doesn't have to be technical - i am just curious what they are like to work with...

Their skunk works does some interesting high-mach work, but there's nothing new on the shaft front. Looking at the brochure, the RR 300 is just a minor derated version of the A250-C20, incorporating C30 compressor design and sourcing mods. For a true 'technology' successor you'd be better looking at Honeywell's SHFE.

No pics or details though.
