Oh, Chr%st... this guy is clueless!

"Australia has decided to postpone the purchase of the JSF and decided to buy the more traditional, but advanced and reliable Super Hornet F18, to avoid any risks in their air defence."

Uhh, WRONG!!

The RAAF purchase is on schedule, not pushed back.

The F/A-18F purchase is to allow the F-111s to be retired now, rather than requiring an expensive rework program to keep them in service for another 10 years. It is to fill their strike requirement, NOT to fill any air-defence slot.

The writer, from the alarmist language and general language, seems to be one of those who already opposed the program, and is exaggerating the (to be expected on any highly-complex high-tech aircraft) problems that are being encountered.

However, with Howard's loss of the election at the weekend, and with maybe a policy change direction re defense, I wonder what implications that may have for the future in terms of the Aussie JSF order....??

Given the nature of the debate about the Hornet purchase I'd be inclined to think the follow-on Boeing's keen to secure would be the first casualty.
