Do the RAF/RN take ab-intio pilots straight out of training and stream them SAR or is it normal practice to expect them to do a tour elsewhere?

SAR is where I would eventually like to end up, but if succesful during selection and training, would I be better off gaining experience elsewhere and then applying for SAR operations?

Thanks for any advice and replies.

Yes they do, but there's no guarantee that you'd get it. The ratio of SAR to SH streaming is low.

Been to an AFCO yet?

Looking at your posting history, what are you really after? Free SAR training with the military and a quick switch to Bond or Bristows?
