I need cheering up- do you have the stats on what percentile of the population aircrew are allegedly drawn from? I was told once that it was top 2%. Your numbers show 26% getting past OASC.

Can I ask where you get your figures from? The RAF has only recruited 100 abo pilots 3-4 years ago rising to 145 abo pilots this FY - and that is for FJ, ME & RW.

FY 07/08 planned pilot output from training to OCU

FJ 33 + 6 Creamies
ME 47
RW 46

AIDU - 900 is a bit high:

From Hansard, pilot training completions for the RAF:

(FJ) - (RW) - (ME)
1998–99 55 - 36 - 53
1999–2000 53 - 41 - 63
2000–01 55 - 44 - 66
2001–02 76 - 28 - 42
2002–03 73 - 42 - 62

For 2002-3 The RAF had a requirement of 145 pilots, and gained 159 onto the strength.

Anybody got any stats on RAF pilot intake in 91-92 and 92-93 ?

I did an RAF Flying Scholarship back then, passed OASC for pilot but was then told that due to defence cuts they were no longer able to intake any more pilots for that year. I am sure that somewhere along the way I was told that the RAF had only recruited something like 12 pilots for the whole year! Got offered FC / ATC or go to University. I chose Uni then ended up joining the the sodding RN as a pilot (whata mistaka to makea).:ugh:

I think you are correct on the 12 pilots but I think it was slightly later than 91/92, might have been 92/93 or 93/94. It was certainly during the really bad backlog/holding era and the plan was to turn off the tap to, well a drip, certainly not a trickle. But once you have done that it takes some persuasive arguments to turn it back on again!! Beancounters - know the value of....
