Investigators Sift for Clues in Fatal Crash

The Montana man who died Thursday afternoon when the helicopter he was piloting on a solo training flight crashed in a field near Baker City had learned to fly, earlier this year, in that very aircraft.
In fact, Pete Wehler, 59, had amassed all 62 of his flight hours in the 1986 Hughes 269 C helicopter, said Troy Woydziak of Elkhorn Aviation Inc., the Baker City company that owns the helicopter.
Wehler had flown solo for about 25 hours, and he needed about 10 more hours of solo flying to earn his commercial helicopter license, Woydziak said this morning....
