Sorry if this is basic stuff for some of you but did you know that you can search PPRUNE via google and avoid the less than satisfactory search engine on the site...
Just type this into google:
site:www.pprune.org your phrase etc here

I have found that useful with overcoming the minimum of 4 characters in a search on the local search function.
