View Full Version : Gulfair ontime perfomance
Noahs Arc 5th November 2007, 18:28 The boses of gulfair are bossing that ontime performance is 101%.whats been happening is very simple they increased the block time by almost an hour most of the sectors Wow clever eh!!Daaaaa!!.Now Guess who are the losers? CREW.as most of the flights arrived there destinations almost hour early.1+1sectors and in a month you lose almost 100BD of lost time.THats cheating Guys.
wadefac 5th November 2007, 19:16 Thats third world mentalitity.........:\
olbie 5th November 2007, 23:23 Now it's fair enough to complain about GF management but are you serious??? How can being early be bad for anybody? Yes some sector times have been increased and that's a good thing as the previous ones were unrealistic! In fact quite a few still need to be increased in my opinion.
In any case, a true test of on-time performance is whether we leave on time not that we arrive early. And we are performing a lot better now than we used to...
Come on guys, get a grip and stop sweating the small stuff!
jackbauer 6th November 2007, 05:27 Olbie, you are not not long in the aviation business I would say.How can being early be bad for anybody? Think about it, if an aircraft is scheduled to be early on every sector it means more on ground time and so no profit. Time on the ground doing nothing is too expensive for the company, An aircraft must work to pay for itself and if you speak to any charter operator they will tell you 18 hours a day is possible. As for pax not caring if they arrive on time, well thats just plain stupid! On time arrival is the biggest concern for any pax especially business travellers who have deadlines. On time departures don't matter if you arrive on time for these people. Secret to success is a tight schedule you can keep to and GF has rarely been able to achieve that.
sec 3 6th November 2007, 05:55 If you want lessons on how NOT to be ontime, talk to Geert at EY. He's doing a great job:E. That is when he's not in the cockpit telling the pilots to put their ties on before departure:confused:. Good job Geert, just take your seat in the back so you can start on your 6 or 8 doubles to have a good buzz on by the time you get to destination!!:\
olbie 6th November 2007, 08:23 Jack:
-I was replying to Noah who states that being early is bad for the crew. I agree that less time spent flying means less revenue but I was not discussing the impact on the company performance.
-Noah also claims that our improving on-time performance is only due to the increase in block time; the only way to check whether that is true is whether we leave early. If every block time was increased by a ridiculous amount, then we'd always arrive early no matter how late our departure!
Finally: I have been flying for 13 years but I still have lots to learn. Please feel free to reply with your differing point of view but there is no need for snide personal attacks.
Happy flying
jackbauer 6th November 2007, 09:01 I have been flying for 13 years Says it all really. You seriously think that makes you experienced? The increased block times are to account for winter winds which will have an effect soon. Doh!!
olbie 6th November 2007, 09:24 I am really surprised at the tone of the whole thing. Can't we discuss an issue without giving to childish games? Are the 10 minutes added to the 320 DXB block 3 months ago due to winter winds? Can you stick to the issue or do you prefer to distract us with your smarty pants remarks?
Desert Diner 6th November 2007, 10:10 More likely due to the extra congestion in and around DXB with EK, EY and QR all attempting to become the worlds largest airlines
sirwa69 7th November 2007, 08:32 As a business traveller the only thing that concerns me is arriving at or before the time stated. WE have to plan our movements and meetings around when we expect to arrive. Getting into a destination after the scheduled time can seriously f@<hidden>#K up my plans. I do not particulalry care about whether we depart on time or not as long as we get there on time.
Having said that I am very p!ssed off at the moment. I am sitting in the lounge in Kuwait having just been told that my 11.35 flight to Bahrain GF212 has been cancelled and I will have to wait till 14.40 to get on GF214.
Apparently there was no operating crew, so will some of you get of your backside and instead of posting on Pprune get flying those aircraft :mad:
On On
Panama Jack 7th November 2007, 19:42 been happening is very simple they increased the block time by almost an hour most of the sectors Wow clever eh!
If I may say so, it is a fairly old and common industry-practice to "pad" scheduled travel times. Gives for some wiggle-room to the airline, good for passengers who are planning their trips for things like connections, and hardly anybody complains when the PA goes "oh gosh jeez folks, we are going to arrive about 20 minutes early today and sincerely apoligize for any inconvenience." However, I have noticed (and this is only my unscientific observation) that we are departing more frequently on-time, so yes, things are improving and that is the objective of the exercise.
scanscanscan 8th November 2007, 00:27 Early or late guys please just make sure you arrive safely and in one piece....we must not have another GF tail sticking out of the ocean on BBC TV.
BeeBop 8th November 2007, 06:26 Just come back from an extended trip through the ME and used on 2 legs GF again (something I had not done in a long time). First leg out of BAH was more than an hour late, second leg out of KWI was 40min early wheras the previous flight out of KWI was cancelled so you can imagine the run on the check-in guys.
I appreciate this is only a very limited view on the 'new' ops of GF but then again, GF managed to p@<hidden>#% of two full aircraft in two days something I for one cannot afford with my ops.
