Hi, first off make sure both your sounds and video driver suites are up to date by going to the relative website and downloading the latest versions.

Then clear your internet cache, Control Panel / Internet Options / Delete files (make sure you check the offline content box)

Give your system a good check for spy/addware ect.
Nice tool available here I always use the safer networking site for updates but your choice, works well easy to use and finds almost all pests.

Next, a lot of sites on the web use Java and it is often updated so unless you have auto update for java enabled it may be out dated, go here and download the latest version.

http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp (http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp)

Also a lot of sites rely on Adobe Shockwave Flash Player which should nag you for updates but often does not….latest available here.

Finally DirectX from Microsoft, should be version 9c for XP and below DX10 for Vista, happily Microsoft have made up an update package for both…available here.

This Java stuff is a red herring - you only need it for sites that use Java applets. It's not to be confused with JavaScript, which a lot of sites use - totally separate languages, despite the similar names. If you don't have Java, and you go to a site that uses it, the browser usually tells you to get it, but until then, it's not the problem.

Are you familiar with the concept of an IP Address? It's the first thing to check when a connection is iffy, and you do it like this:
- open a command line window (start / run / type "cmd")
- type the following command on the command line: ipconfig
- do this when the connection appears to be up, and when it's down, and compare them.
- if it returns "0.0.0.0" for the IP Address at any time, your internet connection won't work. If that happens, you need to talk to your internet provider and see what they say. I don't know anything about your connection, whether you have a "router" or not, so I don't know whether the problem is at the ISP, or in the box they gave you,

ok thanks .. it was working yesterday until i restarted my computer .. but when my internet goes down it goes right back up, so there`s no time to test.

In your position I'd look at the other side of the network connection e.g. the box from your ISP. If that's resetting for any reason, your connection will drop. Has it got one of those dodgy external PSUs..?

If you're going to ask for help with your internet connection, how can anyone help you if you don't know what you have? Come on, you wouldn't talk this way if you called the AA about your car, would you? :ugh:

oxstrawberrikiss,

Have you considered hiring a local computer engineer / technician to come and sort out your problem?

Unfortunately there are sometimes problems that some expert (paid) help is necessary to resolve.
