Whenever you are looking for the jobs in EU everything related to having a type rating says (example): "JAA B737 Type rating".
Does that mean that If I have my JAA licence with CPL/ME/IR and I do my B737 type rating in US in a FAA approved TRO I would not qualify as a potential candidate for the EU job interviews, because I havent done my TR in EU or?
How come then there are pilots who have done their TR in US,Canada,Brazil etc... and still able to get jobs in EU even though they haven't done their JAA TR??

I welcome any ideas or comments...

Cheers

As far as I understand it. There are many issues here.
Firstly the rating will either be FAA (USA) or JAA.
The training organisation will be authorised for either one or both or other authorities, regardless of where it based. Hence you can do a JAA TR in the USA (provided a JAA TRTO).

The main difference between a FAA TR and JAA type rating is that under the FAA system they do not do the base check (take offs and landings in a/c) as part of the course. Hence FAA prices may be cheaper.

You can convert a FAA TR onto your JAA licence once you have 500 hours on that type. I don't know the proceedure for the other way around.

Hope it helps.

If you have a FAA TR you can only fly american N registered aircraft. Similarly with your JAA TR. Therefore having an FAA TR is of little use when applying for a JAA job. On the plus side it will demonstrate that you are able to do the course and the TRTO may also be JAA registered and may issue a JAA TR to you when you have completed the base check. But normally what you will find is that they will charge you the difference between the 2 fees for that, so there is little point in getting an FAA TR in the first place unless you want to fly N reg a/c.
